Nidum
The artist
Seductive, vibrant, and recognizable, Wendy Buiter’s artworks are a reflection of timeless glamour—expressed through the portrayal of fashionable, confident, and diverse women.
Every work of art is created by hand and, with every new work, a new character is born.
Although figurative, many women see something of themselves in the expressive eyes of the life-sized multimedia portraits, whose alluring appearance encourages a constant exchange of energy between the world and the viewer.
Often described as “stylized modernity” and sometimes called “hybrid,” because of the crossover between fashion illustration and portraiture, Wendy’s artworks are inspired by the latest fashion, and her background as a makeup artist. She paints the way she applies makeup: layer by layer and detail by detail, with depth and shadow.
The detailed elaboration of each model’s eyes, eyelashes, lips, and jewelry stimulates the senses and offers an unspoken ode to femininity. Embellishments, such as scarves and hats, provide the finishing touches, and the jewelry portrayed in her works is inspired by prominent collections from international designers.
As an artist, Wendy’s mission is to bring joy to the viewer and she enjoys nothing more than engaging with collectors and her many followers on Instagram. Her cosmopolitan art finds its home in publications and art collections around the world.

The Sequentia series
The longstanding collaboration between Wendy Buiter and Nidum owner, Lonneke van der Weyden, began spontaneously when Lonneke first visited Wendy’s art studio in Rotterdam to select original artworks.
Lonneke and her husband, Aard Keijser, are the proud owners of Keijser & Co, located in the ETC Design Center in Culemborg. As leading interior designers, they represent the crème de la crème of the interiors industry, and their newest project, Nidum: House of Inspiration stands to be no exception.
Lonneke recalls her first experience at Wendy’s studio, sharing that “Wendy’s portraits are real eye-catchers and immediately stood out.” Lonneke continued, stating that “I got so much positive energy from Wendy and her work. From that moment on, we were a team and I have always kept her in mind for new projects.”
Over the years, Wendy has equally enjoyed their partnership, sharing that she has “received more and more assignments through the ETC Design Center from both private individuals and interior professionals.”
It was, therefore, only natural that with the upcoming opening of Nidum: House of Inspiration, Lonneke would approach Wendy for original works of art.
”A new concept like Nidum requires a new collection!” Wendy shared. “That is why I have made nine new works; one of which is designed as a four-panel sequence that is ideally suited for a long wall.”
Remaining true to Nidum’s inspiration, Wendy incorporated the nesting theme into her art: “All works are inspired by nests, birds, and eggs,” she explained; “together they bear the name Sequentia, which means successive—to honor our friendship and cooperation.”
To prepare for the creation of her latest artworks, Wendy received upholstery samples from Lonneke, which were used as inspiration for the clothing of her portrait models.
“I also created ‘Avem’ (Bird) and ‘Caesar’ (Two Birds in Matching Colors),” Wendy shared, adding that “for restaurant Ovum, which means ‘egg,’ I have interwoven curly hair into a nest (Nidum); the nest contains two eggs, the cracks of which are filled with gold. That painting is aptly named ‘Ova in Nidum’ (Eggs in Nest).”
Utilizing the sophisticated mixed media layering techniques for which Wendy is widely known, she has once again created an eye-catching masterpiece; this time offering an entirely new experience of sequential art, inspired by the home, by human connection, and by a sense of belonging.
“As an artist, I naturally feel a huge affinity with a place like Nidum, where it’s all about experience and inspiration. My motivation for these nine works is to show how I work when I create a series pertaining to a certain theme. I see this series as the blueprint of many series to come…”
The sequence will be available for sale as a complete series, as well as in parts, or as individual artworks. Limited edition artworks, as well as prints of Wendy’s work, will also be available for sale in the Nidum store.
“Oculi Ovum”
Created as part of a four-panel art sequence, this elegant mixed medium artwork exudes the bold, cosmopolitan confidence of Wendy Buiter’s signature style.
“Oculi” means “Eyes” in Latin and “Ovum” translates to “Egg,” directly referring to the Nidum: House of Inspiration theme, and drawing reference from the model’s brilliant eyes, as well as the eggs incorporated into her elaborate earrings.
Oculi Ovum also forms a striking three-panel triptych with sister artwork, Sequentia, and brother artwork, Avem; a beautiful two-panel diptych in combination with Avem; and an alluring individual work of art.
The sequence works equally well placed side by side as it does beneath one another; accommodating both longer and narrow wall arrangements.

“Avem”
Part of the Sequentia series, Avem features a vibrant peacock, whose blue-green feathers form a striking contrast against the textured gold background.
“Avem” translates to “Bird” from Latin, in-keeping with the theme of this artwork as well as the overall concept for Nidum: House of Inspiration.
Avem also forms a magnificent three-panel triptych with sister artworks, Sequentia and Oculi Ovum; a two-panel diptych with either Oculi Ovum or Sequentia; and a bold work of art as an individual piece.
The sequence works equally well-placed side by side as it does beneath one another; accommodating both longer and narrow wall arrangements.

“Sequentia”
The show-stopping artwork after which the entire Nidum series is named, Sequentia also forms part of the four-panel art sequence of the same name. The model’s undeniable sophistication is characteristic of Wendy Buiter’s mixed medium artworks and the elegant colors, and detail evident in the chic chiffon fabric blouse, draws direct inspiration from Nidum: House of Inspiration upholstery.
“Sequentia” means “Continuous” in Latin, referring not only to the successive four-panel creation, but as a celebration of the longstanding collaboration between Wendy and Keijser & Co.; which now continues indefinitely as part of this new Nidum project.
Sequentia also forms an alluring three-panel triptych with sister artwork, Oculi Ovum, and brother artwork, Avem, or together with brother artworks Avem and Caesar; a dazzling two-panel diptych in combination with either Avem or Caesar; or an independent work of art, when showcased alone.
The sequence works equally well-placed side by side as it does beneath one another; accommodating both longer and narrow wall arrangements.

“Caesar”
An integral part of the four-panel Sequentia series, Caesar showcases a regal peacock, inspired by a Pinterest board Wendy Buiter created featuring exotic birds.
The name “Caesar” not only bears reference to the Roman Emperor, but to the owners of Keijser & Co., who are leaders of their industry, and to the imperial aesthetic of the bird itself, which resulted from a mood board designed specifically for the entire Nidum series.
Caesar also forms an eye-catching three-panel triptych with sister artwork, Sequentia, and brother artwork, Avem; a seductive two-panel diptych alongside the glamorous Sequentia; and a unique, individual work of art when placed alone.
The sequence works equally well-placed side by side as it does beneath one another; accommodating both longer and narrow wall arrangements.

“Luna in Nidem”
Luna in Nidum, also known as Lonneke’s Nest, was created in honor of the owner of Nidum: House of Inspiration, Lonneke van der Weyden. The mixed medium work features an exotic bird, beautifully wrapped around the model’s head, earrings reminiscent of bird’s nests, and a colorful collage of different fabrics that may be witnessed firsthand at the design center.
The name “Lonneke” is actually derived from the name “Luna,” and “Nidum” is Latin for “Nest,” hence how this vibrant artwork received its name.
Designed to symbolize the warm nest design hub for which Nidum: House of Inspiration was created, the artwork similarly represents a nest of inspiration.

“Ova in Nidum”
Seductive and confident, the woman portrayed in Ova in Nidum represents Wendy Buiter’s mesmerizing signature style. At once simplistic and layered in detail, the work captures the viewer’s attention and sparks a sense of curiosity.
The artwork also distinctly showcases multiple eggs, nestled in the model’s hair, illustrated as her earrings, and reflected as small white dots in her blue clothing, which also alludes to the upholstery of the designer furniture at Keijser & Co. This is because “Ova in Nidum” is directly translated from Latin to “Eggs in Nest” and refers to the abundance of inspiration to be found at Nidum: House of Inspiration.

“Aurum Nidum”
Exceptionally sophisticated, Aurum Nidum features a glamorous woman, adorned in richly decorated attire.
Aptly named, “Aurum” means “Gold” in Latin and “Nidum” translates to “Nest,” alluding to the air of elegance this artwork exudes, as well as to the model’s bold earrings.
Notably, the earrings portrayed in the artwork are not matching, just as today’s fashion magazine’s prescribe, but the meaning goes deeper and serves to highlight the fact that birds and their nest are unique unto themselves, but are always inextricably linked.

“Imperatrix Nidum”
This bold and colorful mixed medium artwork was lovingly created as an ode to Wendy Buiter’s long term client, Keijser & Co.
“Imperatrix” is Latin for “Empress” and “Nidum” translates to “Nest,” thus bearing reference to “De Keijsers in the Nest.”
Lonneke van der Weyden, the owner of Nidum: House of Inspiration, her loving husband, Aard Keijser, and their three wonderful children, form a warm family nest of their own. As friends of the family, Wendy has come to experience this warmth herself and now thinks of the family not only as business partners, but as special friends.

“Saturnia Pavonia”
Sultry and distinct, Saturnia Pavonia was named by one of Wendy Buiter’s Instagram followers, after she asked for input on a suitable name for this irresistible artwork.
“Pavonia” means “Peacock-like” and is also the name of the night peacock butterfly. “Saturnia Pavonia” is the name of a moth that belongs to the Saturniidae family.
As it happens, the intricate earrings depicted in this artwork resemble the outstretched wings of the Saturnia Pavonia moth and depict the upholstery found at Nidum: House of Inspiration. Consequently, Wendy adores the name suggested, as she feels it completely covers the mixed medium portrayal.
