Hello beauties, Welcome back to another blog post! In this blog post, I will share ten things that inspire me in my artistic process.
1. Ad Campaigns From Luxury Brands
My first source of inspiration comes from luxury ad campaigns from high-end fashion brands like Dior, Guerlain, Tom Ford, and Cartier. One of my personal favorites is the 2020 Dior campaign with Jennifer Lawrence. The elegance, sophistication, and details in these campaigns, especially the eyes of the models, inspire me to paint muses that are ethereal and fashionable.
2. John Currin’s Painting
John Currin’s painting of Jennifer Lawrence for the 125th-anniversary cover of Vogue Magazine is another major inspiration. The pose, colors, wardrobe, and expression in this painting influence how I paint the poses and expressions of my muses. This painting continues to inspire ideas on posture and facial expressions for my limited edition series.
3. AI Art and Design
AI-generated artwork and images have become a fascinating source of inspiration for me. AI can create all kinds of artwork in just a few seconds, providing vivid color schemes and distinct model poses. While I don’t use AI in my work, it helps spark new ideas about how to paint my muses, enhancing my creative process.
4. Camp Styles
Camp styles, known for their exaggerated, theatrical, and extravagant aesthetics, are a vibrant source of inspiration. The loud and bold colors, prints, and overall unapologetic sense of style inspire me to infuse boldness and confidence into my paintings. I want my female characters to embody this sense of self-expression and inspire others to be comfortable in their own skin.
5. Bold Color Palettes
I’ve always been drawn to bright, bold colors and interesting prints like stripes and leopard. These bold colors, such as electric blue, emerald green, and hot pink, grab attention and set a mood in my paintings. My expressive use of color tells a story and adds personality to my female characters.
6. Art Deco Posters and Shapes
Vintage Art Deco posters and geometric shapes from the 1920s and 30s inspire my work. The sleek designs, vibrant colors, and intricate patterns of Art Deco influence my paintings. The model poses, colors, and shapes from this era inspire me to create muses that are timeless, sophisticated, and elegant.
7. Feminine Model Poses
Soft, graceful, and feminine model poses are a significant source of inspiration. Over-the-shoulder looks, ¾ profiles, and bare shoulders add a mysterious quality to my muse portraits. Luxury ad campaigns with subtle gestures and expressive lighting emphasize the eyes, high cheekbones, and lips, inspiring me to create muses that embody soft femininity and allure.
8. Neutral Colors
Neutral color palettes are my go-to for both my wardrobe and my paintings. These simple and sophisticated colors, such as beige, grays, whites, and cream, add dimension and depth to my muses. Neutral colors create emotional responses, conveying calm, purity, openness, clarity, mysteriousness, and power in my artwork.
9. Chic Fashion Styles
Chic fashion, characterized by minimalistic and elegant pieces, inspires my muses’ fashionable looks. I love incorporating global fashion trends, such as black dresses, interesting headpieces, bow tie scarves, and elegant blouses, into my paintings. My muses are always dressed in polished, timeless, and elegant styles that reflect global influences.
10. Statement Jewelry
Statement jewelry adds a touch of glamour and elegance to my muses. I’m drawn to pearls and large statement pieces, which, while impractical for everyday wear, make a bold statement in my paintings. The intricate details and themes of the jewelry, such as musical notes or cityscape shapes, tell a story about my muses’ personalities and backgrounds.
