Artwork Care
Artworks by Wendy Buiter are created to be lived with, cherished, and passed on. With thoughtful care, they can be enjoyed not only today, but for generations to come. Ownership of an artwork also means stewardship. Proper care ensures the integrity, appearance, and longevity of the work over time.
Caring for Your Artwork
Once an artwork has been delivered, the responsibility for its care and preservation lies with the collector. This includes providing a suitable environment and handling the work with attention and respect.
Environment
-
Hang artworks in a space with a stable, moderate temperature
-
Avoid areas with high humidity, direct heat sources, or strong airflow
-
Do not expose artworks to direct sunlight or prolonged intense light
Handling
-
Always handle artworks with clean, dry hands
-
Avoid touching the painted surface directly
-
When moving or transporting a work, ensure it is properly protected
Framing & Installation
Framing and installation are considered additional services. Any framing performed by the artist is offered as a courtesy and does not include long-term guarantees.
Minor shifts or settling within a frame may occur over time due to gravity, environmental conditions, or natural material behavior. Such adjustments are considered normal maintenance and can be addressed by a professional framer.
Insurance & Responsibility
Collectors are advised to include their artwork under their household contents insurance (inboedelverzekering) or a dedicated fine art insurance policy.
In the event of damage to the artwork or frame due to accidents, environmental factors, or external circumstances after delivery, collectors may consult their insurance provider. In such cases, the purchase invoice can serve as documentation for insurance purposes.
The artist cannot be held responsible for damage occurring after delivery and encourages collectors to ensure appropriate insurance coverage for long-term protection.
Long Term Preservation
Artworks are living objects. Subtle changes over time are part of their natural aging process and do not diminish their value or authenticity.
Collectors are encouraged to:
-
Periodically check the stability of frames and hanging systems
-
Consult a professional framer or conservator for maintenance if needed
-
Treat artworks as valuable cultural objects requiring ongoing care
With proper stewardship, an artwork can remain a source of beauty, meaning, and legacy for decades, and beyond.
Care, Use & Responsibility
By acquiring an artwork, the collector accepts responsibility for its care, safeguarding, and preservation after delivery.
The artist cannot be held responsible for damage, deterioration, or changes caused by improper handling, installation, environmental conditions, lack of appropriate care, or insured events occurring after delivery.
Artworks are intended to be handled, displayed, and preserved with care and respect.
The artwork may not be intentionally damaged, altered, dismantled, or subjected to actions that could reasonably result in deterioration or destruction. This includes improper handling, exposure to unsuitable environments, or unauthorized modifications.
Any damage resulting from misuse, negligence, intentional actions, or lack of appropriate care is the responsibility of the owner and does not constitute a defect or liability on the part of the artist.
By acquiring an artwork, the collector accepts a duty of care, ensuring that the work is treated as a valuable cultural object worthy of preservation for future generations.
