Hello, dear readers!
I recently had the joy of hosting a painting workshop at Mytylschool de Piramide in The Hague, and I am excited to share the wonderful experience with you all! 😃🎨👩🏼🎨
It was an absolute delight to see the enthusiasm and creativity of the young artists at the workshop. These talented individuals poured their hearts into painting their favorite designs and faces, with a bit of guidance and support along the way. The energy in the room was contagious, and the smiles on their faces were priceless! 😍🖼️
Mytylschool de Piramide is a special education school dedicated to providing education and support for children with a wide range of disabilities, including physical, cognitive, and emotional disabilities. The school offers a nurturing and inclusive environment where each child can thrive and express their unique abilities.
Hosting this workshop was particularly meaningful for me as it took place in the same building as Tyltylschool de Witte Vogel, where my son Max attends. Last month, I had the pleasure of leading a painting session there as well. 😊
For those unfamiliar, a mytylschool and a tyltylschool are both types of special education schools in the Netherlands. They serve children with disabilities, but they cater to different needs. Mytylschools primarily serve children with physical disabilities, such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and muscular dystrophy. These schools are equipped with specialized facilities and equipment to help children overcome physical barriers to learning.
In contrast, tyltylschools cater to children with multiple disabilities, including physical, cognitive, and sensory disabilities. These schools adopt a holistic approach to education, addressing academic, social, emotional, and physical needs. They are staffed with specialized professionals, such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and behavior specialists, who provide individualized support to each child.
While these terms are specific to the Netherlands, the concept of special education schools catering to various types of disabilities is common across different education systems worldwide.
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to engage with these amazing young artists and to contribute to their creative journey. Their enthusiasm and passion for art remind me of the profound impact creativity can have on our lives, especially for those facing unique challenges.
Thank you for joining me in celebrating this heartwarming experience. Let’s continue to support and uplift each other through art and creativity.
With love and creativity,
Wendy Buiter
